Salvaged from Smith College in Massachusetts, SOPHIA is one of two mantels original to the long-standing student residence, Parsons House. Nestled in the home of about 60 students, we can imagine the qualities imbued in these mantels: the comings and goings of studious young women, the camaraderie, the late-night musings, the spark that ignites a fire when newfound freedom mixes with intellectual curiosity and the early seeds of lifetime pursuits begin to grow and blossom -- all forged of traditional, American college life.
Parsons House was acquired by Smith College in 1921 and stands on a site said to have been purchased by Conet Joseph Parsons from Native Americans in 1645, before Northampton was even a settlement. Establishing SOPHIA in your home is truly embracing a piece of American history.
Lead Time & Delivery
Each mantel is made to order and adapted in stone, scale, opening, hearth, insert, and detail. Collection profiles are starting points. Every Mantel House fireplace is made to order following final design approval. Once shop drawings and stone selection have been approved, production typically requires 10-12 weeks.
Each mantel is professionally crated and shipped with care. We coordinate delivery worldwide and work directly with your contractor, builder, or installer to ensure a seamless arrival and installation.

Installation is not included as part of our services. However, we maintain a network of experienced stone installers and contractors throughout the Northeast and Midwest who are familiar with Mantel House fireplaces.
