ESTER
Description
C. 1850’s, New York, NY. Measurements: 65"W x 45"H. Firebox Opening: 39"W x 36"H.
For believers in secret gardens, eternal love, and maximum romance. Elaborate carvings of cascading blooms pair with angled spandrels for an added sense of opulence. Overflowing urns and lush bouquets envelop the hearth for a magical experience inside the home.
We traced the origins of our Ester mantel to this very special home in the historic West Village, once belonging to David Yurman and Mary E. Kaplan.
The trustees of Trinity Church created 66 Morton Street in 1852, five years after creating the third Trinity Church, a national landmark that still exists today. The house was built with nine original fireplace mantels with this one pictured in the entry parlor, reflecting the grandeur and craftsmanship of its time. Notable exterior features include polygonal bay windows and a bowed facade, the only one of its kind in the West Village.
This house has also enjoyed a cinematic past. Imagine the stories it could tell. In fact, the house was Harrison Ford’s residence in "Working Girl"; Matthew Broderick’s in "The Night We Never Met" and Winona Ryder’s in "Autumn in New York".
